An 11-month search for the body of a 21-year-old missing university student has come to an end after it was found decomposing by game wardens on Friday in Mt Kenya Forest.

Yvonne Mwendwa together with her boyfriend, 22-year old Dennis Kirimi went missing during a hiking expedition in the forest on September 30 last year.

She was a student at Kirinyaga University.

Her mother, Jadrine Kanyua said she was contacted by authorities and she conformed the body is her daughter’s.

“It is true. We were informed and I saw the body,” she said plaintively as quoted by Daily Nation.

KWS Senior warden Simon Gitau said they only found Yvonne’s body.

“My officers reported only finding one body and the crime scene investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were called in for further probe.

We still do not know about the whereabouts of the man but the matter is being handled by police,” he said.

Before her body was found, her disappearance had been coined to be a suicide.

This was after detectives visited her hostel in Kerugoya where they found a suicide note. Yvonne was sharing the room with Kirimi.

But her mother disputed the handwriting on the suicide note saying it was not her daughter’s.
