The High Court has slapped Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria with a Sh6.5 million fine for defamation against Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua.

Karua had sued Kuria for Sh20 million in damages for defamation.

Kuria was taken to court by Karua after claiming that she procured witnesses to fix Deputy President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Gatundu South MP first made the sensational accusation against Karua in Kapsokwony in Kericho County on September 21, 2015.

He said Karua and a team of other leaders met at Galileo Lounge in Nairobi where they drew up a scheme to recruit fake witnesses to allegedly fix Ruto who was at the time facing crimes against humanity charges at Hague in Netherlands.

Karua demanded an apology from the fiery lawmaker but he did not.

In arguing her case, Karua said Kuria went ahead to repeat the sensational claim in Parliament.

“The claims are scandalous, malicious, unwarranted and lowered my dignity among right thinking members of the society,” said the lawmaker according to the Star.

Besides Ruto, President Uhuru Kenyatta was also facing similar charges a the Hague-based international court.

Their cases were however, thrown out for lack of evidence in 2015.
