The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has spoken against a move by NASA supporters to give their leader a “grand reception” at the airport on Friday.

Raila has been in the US for the last one week. He has had a series of high profile political engagements including former Ambassador to Kenya Johnnie Carson.

He will jet back on Friday.

But Boinett said this poses a major security risk in an area that is under high police surveillance.

In a statement on Wednesday through Police spokesperson George Kinoti, reports the Star, Boinett stated that, “It is not advisable to mobilise huge crowds to travel to that facility as it risks jeopardising the safety of air passengers and other airport users.”

“Those without valid reasons to enter the facility will be denied entry. Therefore, those making plans for the day are advised accordingly,” added the statement.

The IG maintained that NASA while planning their public procession must adhere to the Public Order Act.

On Thursday, NASA is expected to conduct what they are calling a rehearsal rally at Kamukunji grounds ahead of Raila’s comeback.
