President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the death of environmentalist and activist Joanna Stuchburry.

Joanna was shot dead on Thursday afternoon outside her Kiambu home.

Dr Paula Kahumbu, an award-winning conservationist via her social media broke the news.

Kahumbu said Joanna was shot four times at her Thindigua home. She was on the driveway of Mushroom Gardens Estate.

“Joanna Stuchburry was shot dead. She is known for her relentless attempts to protect Kiambu Forest from developers. Nothing was stolen (during the shootout). May she rest in eternal peace and may the culprits be caught and punished, “Kahumbu eulogised.

Uhuru, in his condolence message, condemned the killing.

“It is very sad, unfortunate and regrettable that bad people have senselessly taken away the life of Joanna Stuchburry in such a senseless manner,” the President said.

“For the longest time, Joanna has been a steadfast champion for the conservation of our environment and is remembered for her relentless efforts to protect Kiambu forest from encroachment,” the President mourned.

According to neighbours, Joanna was strolling in the neighbourhood around 5 pm when the gang ambushed her.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and did a forensic analysis.

The President said security agencies would pursue the attackers.

“My government will pursue and apprehend the criminals behind the killing of Joanna. We will not allow a few misguided individuals to continue shedding the blood of innocent people working hard to make Kenya a better place for all of us,” he assured.
