High Court quashes Matiang’i’s order to ban NRM

The National Resistance Movement is no longer an organized criminal group outlawed by government.

This follows Friday’s order by the High Court that quashed a gazette notice by Interior CS Dr Fed Matiang’i which on January 30 outlawed NRM.

Justice John Mativo Justice Mativo issued the conservatory orders restraining CS Matiang’i from effecting and implementing the gazette notice pending hearing and determination of a case.

Matiang’i outlawed NRM on moments after Raila Odinga was unofficially ‘sworn in’ as the ‘Peoples President’ in an event graced by thousands of NASA supporters.

NRM is NASA’s resistance wing. It’s meant to spearhead civil disobedience against government as well as strategies to boycott products and services from companies which allegedly helped Jubilee rig August 8 polls.

The outfit is also tasked with creating a channel for reclamation of electoral justice.

NRM officials including embattled lawyer Miguna Migina who was deported to Canada on Tuesday  have since been on government’s radar for being part of the “illegal outfit”.

Matiang’i in his directive stated according to the Standard: “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 22 of the Act, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares National Resistance Movement (NRM) to be organised criminal group for the purposes of the Act.”
