President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he may reach out to his political nemesis Raila Odinga after the elections as way to unify the country.

The President spoke minutes after he cast his vote at Mutomo Primary School in Gatundu. He was accompanied by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and his mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

Incidentally, today, (Thursday) marks his birthday.

He said that as a responsible leader, he has an obligation to unite the country.

This means, he may have to dialogue with Raila but will do that only after the polls.

“As a responsible leader you must reach out and that is my intention,” said the President as Daily Nation quotes adding that he will find a solution to end tribalism which is a scourge into Kenya’s societal fibre.

Before the repeat elections, Uhuru maintained a similar standing.

Various quarters have been pushing him to dialogue with Raila seeking an end to political turmoil that has hit the country.

He has however, insisted he cannot dialogue with Raila who since withdrew from the race because time is not ready yet.

Uhuru sentiments were amplified by his Deputy William Ruto who said that they can only talk with the opposition once the polls are concluded.

The DP cast his vote at Kosachei Primary School in Turbo.

He was accompanied by his wife Rachel Ruto.

Uhuru expressed optimism that the repeat polls will calm down the political turmoil that has hit the country.

He said: “It’s my hope and wish that the country will move forward after this election.”
