Fiery Jubilee politician from Rift Valley Kipchumba Murkomen owes his political success to opposition leader Raila Odinga since he nurtured him when he discovered he could make it in politics.

Yesterday, Raila who was speaking in Marakwet said that he has no personal differences with politicians from the Rift in spite of them being predominantly in Jubilee Party.

Raila noted that he has nurtured most of them including former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo.

“Murkomen is my political child. I stayed with him and found out he is a brilliant political mind. I gave him a job to teach Kenyans about devolution,” remarked Raila as quoted by the Star.

He said he advised Murkomen to run in 2013 on a URP ticket because it the party that had the largest following at the time in Rift Valley.

“He told me he would not win if he vied on an ODM ticket so I told him to join URP,” added the ODM Party chair.

Defunct URP was being led by Deputy President William Ruto.

However, he said, Kimaiyo was a competent policemen who was kicked out of office without a just course.

Raila said they had trust in Kimaiyo and that is why they gave him the job together with retired President Mwai Kibaki.

“Kimaiyo was among the most educated policemen in the country. I felt bad when he was hounded out of office before attaining retirement age.”

The NASA boss said Kimaiyo, should he have remained the IG, could have ended banditry in Kerio Valley which has now become a nightmare.

His visit to Rift Valley comes a week after the historic handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
