Police have served businessman Jimmy Wanjigi’s father, Maina Wanjigi with a court summon requiring him to appear at Nyeri Law Courts over a gun related offence.

The former Cabinet Minister was served by officers who toured his Karen Home yesterday.

The summon requires Wanjigi Senior to appear on March 5 at Nyeri Law Court and answer to charges of failing to keep safe his weapon, reports the Standard.

Wanjigi Senior is a firearm license holder for the last 50 years.

“Your attendance is necessary to appear in Chief Magistrate Court at Nyeri to take plea in a criminal case number 253 of 2018 on a charge of failing to keep safe custody of a firearm as read with Firearms Act,” read part of the summonses which bore a March 1 stamp as quoted by the Standard.

This comes a few days after his son Jimmy was expected to appear before Nyeri Resident Magistrate to answer to 11 counts of importation of a prohibited firearm.

However, Jimmy moved to the High Court on Thursday where Judge George Odunga quashed the order requiring him to appear on March 5 at the Nyeri Law Court and take a plea.

The weapon in question was confiscated by police at his Muthaiga residence last year.

In his explanation, he said he went with his weapon and kept it at his son’s bedroom where he spent the night.

“How can they say I failed to keep the weapon when they took it from my bedroom? I was present when they took the weapon. This is crazy,” Wanjigi Senior said.

On the day of the raid at Jimmy’s posh Muthaiga residence, they carted away five firearms all of which are said to have been licensed.
