Joho: UhuRuto are “Italian tourists” visiting Coast region, will get no votes

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has termed President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto as “Italian Tourists” visiting Coast region.

The governor said Jubilee will not harvest any votes from Coast region in spite of forays they have made in the region since last year.

“This time Uhuru and Ruto should know that when you come to Kwale you are just tourists, no different with Italians coming down here,” said Joho as told by the Star.

He said this on Saturday during a NASA rally in Kinango area.

He added that Jubilee’s plan to give out Waitiki land for free to locals will not give them any votes.

“I hear they are planning to give out the Waitiki land, even if they do so, they will not get any votes from here,” said he.

Joho, who doubles up as ODM Deputy Party Leader has often laughed off Jubilee’s development record in the region.

He has severally criticized the ruling regime over the issuance of title deeds for sections of Coast residents.

And recently, he has vehemently opposed the setting up of a dry port in Naivasha.

He says that it will hurt the county’s economy as clearing and forwarding companies will have to shut down. Scores of youths who rely on the port to eke out a living will also be rendered jobless.

Uhuru and Ruto have made inroads in Coast region since the beginning of the year.

And with the campaign season entering homestretch, Jubilee is likely to spend more time in Coast region.

Pundits have argued that though Coast region still remains an opposition stronghold, Jubilee will harvest more votes in August unlike in 2013.
