KANU’s Secretary General Nick Salat slapped with 3-month sentence over party primaries

By Jamhuri News Reporter

KANU Secretary General Nick Salat has been sentenced to three months in jail after he failed to obey the Political Party Dispute Tribunal orders.

The party had been ordered to repeat nominations in Fafi constituency after it was determined the results had been tampered with.

When the party failed to execute the orders, Salah Yakub Farah on Tuesday sued the party together with its Secretary General Salat, arguing that Salat and the National Elections Board Chairman Edward Kivuvani had ignored the orders.

A tribunal led by Kyalo Mbobu ruled in favor of Farah, giving Mr. Salat an option of paying Ksh. 200,000 fine or face a three-month jail term. The tribunal also ordered the primaries in Fafi constituency to be repeated within 12 hours.

The tribunal recalled the certificates issued in the exercise across Fafi constituency.

Salat has in the recent past caused an internet sensation after his ”Tuko ndani, ndaaaani ndani” phrase went viral. He coined the phrase addressing a crowd during the National Super Alliance (NASA) launch, emphasizing how deep Kanu is in the coalition.
