A car was torched by rogue youths in Kondele, Kisumu moments after the Supreme Court upheld Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the repeat elections.

They pelt it with stones before the windscreen was smashed and the Nissan March model registration number KBL 058A was set ablaze.

Surprisingly, the incident happened about 100 metres to Kindele Police Station.

The rogue youths later watched as the car burnt while they chanted NASA slogans.

There were two petitions challenging Uhuru’s victory in the October 26 polls.

One was filed by ex-Kilome lawmaker Harun Mwau while the other was filed by Njonjo Mue of ICJ Kenya and Khelef Khalifa of Muhuri.

They argued that Uhuru’s victory was void because IEBC failed to conduct nominations while the polls were marred by low voter turnout.

The two petitions were consolidated into one.

“The court has unanimously determined that the petitions are not merited,” ruled the Chief Justice David Maraga in a decision taken by five other judges of the court.

Following the incident, ODM Director of Communication Philip Etale appealed for calmness in NASA strongholds, reports the Star.

This is after reports that passengers travelling to Busia were being asked for their IDs by a group of youth along the highway.

“NASA supporters across the country are advised to remain calm and not to react to any form of provocation by our opponents,” he said.

“Be calm, still and focused and wait for the way forward from the leadership.”
