Matiang’i, Balala, Macharia make impromptu visit to JKIA

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i together with Tourism and Transport CS’ Najib Balala and James Macharia made an impromptu visit to JKIA Thursday morning.

The three Cabinet Secretaries were on a mission to assess operations at the country’s largest airport.

In a statement, Matiang’i said there are radical changes in the airport by his ministry which are all geared towards securing the country.

“We have made fundamental changes to security related issues at this airport and we will extend that to other airports in the country,” said Matiang’i.

He spoke against the backdrop of a call by his Ministry early this week that warned of a possible terror attack by al-shabaab militants.

The Interior ministry said it has credible intelligence reports that indicate some militia men from the outlawed terror group were targeting some parts of the country.

He added that screening will be rigorous but friendly at all entry points all airports included.

The screening maybe more rigorous at the entry points but we are trying to make it more friendly,” added the Interior CS noting that “all of us have to work together to ensure we have the security we need.”

“We will improve on anything else that has not been done. I appreciate the public on the feedback we are getting from them, that is how we want to work as a government.”

Balala on his part said he is happy in seeing there are positive changes at the airport.

“We want to make sure we have a seamless airport that is responsive to customer issues. We have seen major improvements,” he noted.
