Embattled self-proclaimed NRM general Miguna Miguna has vowed to fight back after his dramatic deportation from Nairobi to Canada on Tuesday evening.

In a tweet before he left JKIA, he said: “The despots have put me in a flight to Amsterdam enroute to Toronto, departure time right now.”

“Instead of taking me to court as ordered repeatedly by the courts, they seized my passports and drove me to the runaway at the JKIA from 6pm up to now,” he said.

Miguna who has been under police custody for the last five days promised to “return soon”.

The fiery lawyer was put into a KLM flight departing Nairobi for Amsterdam minutes to 10pm.

“We are reliably informed that Miguna Miguna has been forced into a KLM flight for “deportation” to Canada,” his lawyer Nelson Havi said via twitter.

He questioned how possible it was to deport a Kenyan from Kenya.  “Now, how do you deport a Kenyan? This Country has been overrun by criminals.”

Miguna has dual citizenship. However, the Interior Ministry’s Spokesperson Mwenda Njoka said Miguna never bothered to reclaim his Kenyan citizenship after denouncing it years ago.

“Mr Miguna denounced his Kenyan citizenship years back, acquired Canadian citizenship and never bothered to reclaim Kenyan citizenship in the legally prescribed manner neither did he disclose that he had another country’s citizenship despite being a lawyer who should have known better,” he said via twitter.

Partly explaining why Miguna was deported, government through its official twitter handle, NEXUS said that: “Miguna is headed home. The court ordered he gets released and the interior ministry obeyed the orders and even assisted him with a flight ticket home.”

Additionally, said NEXUS, “[Miguna] renewed his Canadian passport on 16th June 2017.”

Another senior government official at the Interior Ministry said its citizen was being harassed and they wanted him back according to Daily Nation.

Miguna’s woes began on Tuesday last week where he oversaw the unofficial swearing-in of Raila Odinga.

He flanked Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang who administered the oath.

Miguna was arrested on Friday at his Runda home and was taken to the Milimani Law Court. He was released on Sh50, 000 bond but he never got out.

He failed to appear in court on Monday and Judge Luka Kimaru of the High Court in Nairobi ordered the IG Joseph Boinett to appear before him yesterday morning to explain why he defied court orders.

But, he never showed up and Miguna was charged at a Kajiado Law Court where he refused to take plea.

He was charged with being “present and consented to the administering of an oath to Raila Amollo Odinga purporting to bind him to commit a capital offence of treason.”

The magistrate ordered he be presented before Justice Kimaru at the High Court in Nairobi before 3pm Tuesday for bail determination.

But with his deportation, all this is likely to be swept under the carpet.
