The National Super Alliance disagrees with the date set by the IEBC for repeat polls.

NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga said the coalition is not in any way going to fresh polls on October 17.

He said the poll agency did not consult them.

Instead, he said, they consulted Jubilee and settled on the date.

Raila spoke alongside his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka at Wilson airport en route to Kisii for their first rally outside Nairobi since nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win.

NASA wants the date changed to 23rd October.

But Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i had earlier said repeat polls should be held before 17th October so that they do not interfere with the examination calendar.

“We are alive however; to the reality we are going to have a re-run of the Presidential election. As a result, we have requested the IEBC to consider doing this before the 17th of October,” said the Education CS.

National exams for students with special needs are slated to begin on the 23rd according to the CS.

But Raila said that if the elections are pushed to the 23rd, “the students will not die”.

Political analyst Charles Kipkulei said that NASA is playing “diversionary politics”.

Kipkulei noted that “It’s not that NASA is not ready for the polls. They are playing with the mind of their competitors [Jubilee].”

He also asked Raila to apologize over to Kenyan parents for saying their kids will not die if elections are held just when they are starting their national exams.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati who on Monday announced the polls would be held on October 17 had not responded to NASA’s fresh calls by the time of going to press.
