Protests in Kisumu are no more following a ban by the county Government.

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o said demonstrations will only be allowed if they are called for by NASA or ODM party which he belongs to.

The Governor on Thursday said anyone who has burning issues should follow dully established channels to articulate them to the county government or political party but not protesting.

Prof Nyong’o cited that the county has become a “criminal paradise” with every other protest held.

He spoke against the backdrop of multi-million damages that have been witnessed in the recent months.

On Monday, a group of rogue youths set a saloon car on fire a few metres from Kondele Police Station.

They later proceeded to the station threating to set it on fire but were dispersed by police.

On the same day, they destroyed a Safaricom mast and property of unknown value was looted and destroyed as well.

This was minutes after the Supreme Court upheld President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the October 26 repeat polls.

The Governor in his statement said demonstrations will only be held in Nairobi and not Kisumu.

“When we met in Nairobi, we decided that our demos would only be done in Nairobi,” he said according to the Star.

“Anybody demonstrating in Kisumu county will only demonstrate when the party leader says so.”

He said police are under instructions to deal with anyone blocking roads within the county or molesting citizens.

“We will tell the police to deal with any person putting stones on the road. We don’t want people to come under the disguise of demos and block the roads, take money from people and even rob visitors. This is a criminal act.”
