Raila heads to Murang’a after hecklers in Thika stoned his motorcade, residents promise peace

NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga is taking his vote hunting tour to Murang’a County.

Murang’a residents are welcoming the opposition leader, promising to listen to him calmly. This comes a day after Raila was heckled and his motorcade stoned in Thika on Thursday.

Security officials said security has been beefed up in the area and no form of violence will be entertained.

“If a resident does not want to hear a politician let him or her keep off instead of disrupting the political meetings,” said Murang’a South OCPD Paul Wanjama.

Mr. Wanjama added that security officers are already camping in Kenol Town, where the NASA leader is expected to address area residents.

The Deputy President had also faced a fierce crowd in Kisumu on Wednesday as he toured the area in the company of President Uhuru.

In 2013, Raila impressively got 10,000 votes in Murang’a.

Area residents said they want peace and they expect the opposition leader not to attack the president when he visits.

“I hope he will not come here and start attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta. Let him sell to us the Nasa manifesto,” a resident said.
