Opposition leader Raila Odinga is back in the country after a 4-day break in Zanzibar, Tanzania’s Coast mainland.

Raila left the country on Sunday evening, on the eve of a much-anticipated Supreme Court ruling on an election petition challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the October 26 repeat polls.

The apex court led by Chief Justice David Maraga upheld his victory in the repeat Presidential polls.

“The court has unanimously determined that the petitions are not merited,” said Maraga in his ruling on petitions filed by ex-Kilome MP Harun Mwau, Njonjo Mue (ICJ Kenya Chair) and Khelef Khalifa (Muhuri).

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirmed Raila’s arrival on Wednesday evening.

It is not yet known what the NASA leader was doing in Zanzibar.

Only viral photo of him and a lady masseuse have been doing rounds in social media since Tuesday.

Raila arrived in Kenya from a 10-day US visit on Friday.

His arrival was characterized by mayhem and violence.

At one point, his Range Rover’s bullet proof windscreen was smashed by either a rock or a bullet along Uhuru highway in a procession together with NASA supporters.

He later claimed that it was an attempt on his life engineered by Jubilee.

Several of his supporters also lost their lives on Friday as police dispersed them at different points between JKIA and the city centre.

He hit out at the police for using live bullets to disperse protestors.

But in a statement, the National Police Service denied using live bullets on the demonstrators.

He also comes back at a time when the High Court in Kitui stopped the formation of People’s Assembly.

It stopped all 47 county assemblies from discussing and adopting the motion by NASA.

By the time the ruling was delivered, about 8 county assemblies had passed the motion.

Raila is banking on the new wing to institute radical reforms on the governance, electoral and administrative sectors of the country.

Through the People’s Assembly, NASA had planned to rebel against President Uhuru Kenyatta and call for fresh elections slated for February 9.
