Deputy President’s William Ruto’s 2022 Presidential bid is on a high gear as he puts his focus squarely on NASA firebrand governors.
Sources close to the DP reveal that in the coming days, he will launch his charm offensive aimed at courting the governors reportedly developing bad blood with NASA governorship.
Some of the county chiefs have been missing in action in NASA affairs especially in NASA’s push for electoral justice.
They fear that sustained attacks on Jubilee regime will hurt their businesses as government may inflate taxes on them.
This, pundits say; they may not ditch opposition but could be loyal to Jubilee.
Their support is of paramount importance to his Presidential bid as he expects them to marshal support for his succession from their grassroots.
The strategy also stretches far and wide to net Senators, MPs and MCAs in opposition strongholds.
Ruto believes that with such a strategy, his support base ahead of 2022 will have grown in leaps and bounds.
The Jubilee Deputy Party leader will also rope in politicians who lost in NASA strongholds and have an affinity for Jubilee in his succession bid.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who will be taking his retire from politics is expected to actively campaign for Ruto.
NASA leader Raila Odinga is very much aware of the dalliance Ruto is projecting towards county chiefs allied to his movement.
He told them during a NASA Parliamentary group meeting at Wiper Headquarters in Lavington as the Star reports: “I know they are courting you and offering you more goodies, but I trust you will stand for what is right and push for justice for Kenyans.”
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojamong said they are ready to work with the government of the day, a political undertone signifying they could work with Ruto in 2022.
“We are ready to work with the government of the day. But we need a government that can accommodate everyone. A government that is all-inclusive,” he said on Wednesday.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, his Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu and Taita Taveta’s Granton Samboja are among county chiefs of Ruto’s radar.
