Raila Odinga’s planned swearing-in on January 30 is in limbo after two groups applied to use Uhuru Park on the very day.

A church group and the popular Nairobi Business Community have applied for the grounds, a county official at City Hall told Nairobi News.

The two are expected to pay a requisite fee before they meet.

“We have received requests from the Nairobi Business Community and a church and we expect the payment to be done on Monday,” said the official.

Nairobi Business Community plans on holding a free medical camp at Uhuru Park on January 30, the outfit’s chairman Wiflred Kamau said.

He said the target group is street boys who wish to get circumcised. The camp will offer the minor surgery.

“We have written to the county government and we are actually supposed to pay Sh250, 000 for the venue tomorrow, January 22,” said Kamau. “NASA will have to get another ground if they have an event the same day. We are using Uhuru Park that day,” he said as quoted by Nairobi News.

This expressly throws a spanner in the works for NASA’s much-hyped inauguration ceremony.

Raila insists that nothing can change his mind about being sworn in; a statement seconded by his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka who is expected to be sworn in alongside Raila as his running mate.

Yesterday he talked tough about Jubilee’s threats to arrest him and charge him with treason should he take the presidential oath.

Attorney General Githu Muigai has described this plan as “high treason” punishable by death.

But Raila remained unmoved. He said he is ready to die.

“Attorney General Githu Muigai said that the swearing-in is treason, others said I will be killed, hanged for life or get life imprisonment. But I want to let them know our people have been killed by the government and another life lost is nothing. I am ready to be sworn in whether they like it or not.”

He added that electoral reforms must be realized before the next general election in 2022.

“There will be no election in 2022 if 2017 issue will not have been resolved,” maintained he NASA leader.
