Rivals turned allies: DP Ruto, Gideon Moi pledge to work together

Political rivals, Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi have buried the hatchet and pledged to work together.

Their rivalry has been fueled by their quest to flex their political muscles in controlling the vote-rich Rift Valley region.

Ruto leads the Jubilee brigade in the rift while Moi leads the Kanu wagon which has huge support in the South Rift region.

Both have also expressed their interests in the presidency come 2022.

However, in a changed tone, Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat said his boss sent him to the DP with a message stating they should put the people of Baringo and Kenyans first.

Salat, said, Ruto agreed on this.

“The chairman (Gideon) sent me to Ruto to tell him that we have to put the interests of the people of Baringo and other Kenyans first. And the DP said let’s work because we are here to serve Kenyans” Salat told the Star.

Salat added: “We are not interested in fighting anyone.”

He said both the DP and Moi will work together to make sure Jubilee’s big-four agenda-manufacturing, provision of universal healthcare, food security and creation of 500, 000 housing units is realized.

“To build the society we must come together for a good cause so that we have good roads in place, good markets, health, education and security,” stated Salat.

A month ago, Moi while speaking in Rongai during the homecoming ceremony of his brother Raymond Moi, hinted at possible support from President Uhuru Kenyatta come 2022.

“Uhuru knows what he will do at the right time,” the Kanu Chairman said at the time.

However, it is yet to pan out how the President will handle the politics between the DP and Moi since he had earlier vowed to campaign for Ruto in 2022.
