Shoot me instead of killing my supporters, Raila tells ‘crazy’ Jubilee regime

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has dared government to arrest him.

The NASA leader on Friday said if government views him as an impendiment towards peace and the country’s development, they should arrest him but not kill innocent Kenyans agitating for democracy.

“If Raila is the problem, arrest him…arrest him. Take him to prison…take him to jail…And if you want to shoot, shoot Raila!

But don’t kill people with young families… Children are going to grow without fathers, mothers because you have killed their parents at this age,” lamented Raila as reported by the Star.

He spoke at the Laico Regency hotel in Nairobi during a fundraiser of victims shot by police during NASA’s March on Friday last week.

His supporters clashed with police and they were shot dead. This was on November 17 when he returned from a 10-day US visit.

The day was punctuated by gunshots, teargas and water cannons as they dispersed the NASA supporters together with NASA leaders.

On this day, Raila says more than 15 of his supporters were gunned down by police.

On November 24, NASA published the names and images of his supporters aged between 20 and 29 who were killed by police in Friday’s melee.

Others, including a NASA MP have since been admitted to hospital for treatment following injuries he sustained in the protest.

Mathare MP Antony Aluoch was badly injured and has been hospitalized.

Autopsy report by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed that 10 of them died of bullet wounds while eight others he operated on died of sharp inflictions on their body.

Raila in his speech expressed anger with the Jubilee regime saying he could have stayed in the US but he came back home only to witness his supporters being killed unjustifiably.

“What crime did these people commit….healthy, innocent citizens exercising their democratic right…I feel so sad that I had to come back home yet I should have stayed in the United States of America.”

He described Jubilee as a regime whose actions “have gone crazy” and is now fighting its own citizens.

“It was easier to arrest me at the airport and take me to detention as your father Nyayo (sic),..used to do and spare the life of these innocent people.”
