Labour Cabinet Secretary Phylis Kandie has ordered KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion and his Kuppet counterpart Omboko Milemba to vacate office with immediate effect.

The CS in a gazette notice on Wednesday said the two cannot continue holding labour positions since they are now state officers either elected by the people or nominated by a political party to represent the people.

Sossion is now a nominated MP under the ODM party. Milemba on the other hand is the Emuhaya MP. He was successfully elected in the August 8 polls.

“This notification to vacate office applies to all trade union officials holding either nominated or elective positions in any county assembly or Parliament,” read the notice by Kandie as quoted by the Star.

Article 77 of the constitution expressly restricts full time state officers from holding alternative positions of gainful employment.

Others set to vacate office include Union of Kenya Civil Servants secretary general Tom Odege who was elected MP for Nyatike constituency, Kericho women county representative Florence Bore who was Kuppet secretary, Kericho branch.

Others are Stanley Kiptis who held the position of Knut executive secretary in Baringo and Nyeri governor Edward Kahiga who served as Knut executive secretary, Nyeri Branch.
