TIFA Poll: Kidero beating Sonko in new poll

If elections were to be held today, 44 per cent would elect incumbent Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero as the governor while 43 percent would elect Senator Mike Sonko.

This is according to a poll released by TIFA on Thursday.

Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna, both independent candidates, garnered 4 percent and 1 percent respectively.

The two candidates leading are going neck-to-neck with just a difference of one percent.

The poll further revealed that 39 percent of NASA supporters and 3 percent of Jubilee supporters would vote for Kidero.

On the other hand, Sonko would be elected by 27 per cent of Jubilee supporters and 12 per cent of NASA supporters.

In a statement, TIFA noted that: “Of the two leading contestants from various political parties, Sonko attracts a high proportion of NASA supporters as compared to Kidero.”

In the Senatorial race, Johnson Sakaja (Jubilee) would be elected by a majority of Nairobi residents (39) percent while 28 percent would vote for Edwin Sifuna (ODM).

Sakaja would have 24 percent from Jubilee supporters and 12 percent from NASA while Sifuna has 25 per cent from NASA supporters and 2 per cent from Jubilee.

In the women rep race, 57 percent of city residents would vote for Esther Passaris while 25 per cent would vote for incumbent Rachel Shebesh (Jubilee).

Celebrated radio personality Maina Kageni would get one per cent.

Passaris enjoys a huge backing by NASA supporters (42%) while Shebesh just 4 percent.

The survey was conducted on July 1 and 2 in 17 sub-counties with a sample of 829 people through face-to-face interviews.

The poll has a margin error of +/-3.4% and a 95 per cent confidence level.
