President Uhuru Kenyatta has told Jubilee politicians not to be dragged into petty politics by the opposition warning he will not tolerate hatemongers.

Speaking during a Parliamentary Group meeting on Tuesday, the President vowed to deal firmly with politicians spreading hatespeech

“Jubilee is a national party and it represents Kenyans of every ethnicity, religion and region. Don’t be drawn into the politics of tribal animosity. We are very firm on this,” said Uhuru.

His warning comes a day after the arrest of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama.

The two were arrested on Monday and booked at Pangani Police Station.

They appeared before Milimani Court Principal Magistrate Francis Andayi on Tuesday where they were charged with incitement.

They were released on sh300, 000 bond and a further sh1 million to act as a deterrent from issuing further inflammatory statements.

Uhuru said that every politician has an obligation to foster unity among his people.

Earlier, Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i warned police will arrest any hatemonger irrespective of his political affiliation.

He said no one is above the law.

“Some people think that if they come from the ruling party, the law is not for them. We will be firm,” said he.
