President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended the nationwide dusk to dawn curfew for another week.
In a statement on Monday by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, the 9 pm to 4 am curfew will set the stage for the President to host the national conference on COVID-19 which is scheduled for Monday next week, September 28.
“The National COVID-19 Conference will be presided over by his excellency the President on Monday, 28th September 2020 and will feature participants from the entire spectrum of our national life. This pivotal conference is tipped to be a turning point in Kenya’s fight against the novel coronavirus Disease,” the statement read.
Uhuru also extended all other COVID-19 containement measures as earlier directed in his 11th national address on August 26.
He had extended the dusk to dawn curfew by 30 days and ordered the closure of pubs and bars for a further 30 days.
“In the next 30 days, bar owners, in consultation with the Ministry of Health will develop self-regulating mechanisms as part of their civic responsibility to their clientele, in order to allow their resumption,” he directed in August.
Uhuru also ordered places of worship to hold a maximum of 100 people while adhering to the cardinal 1.5 m social distancing rule.
The National COVID-19 Conference according to Kinyua will enable Kenya to chart a safe path in resuming normalcy during COVID-19 times.
“The conference will showcase good practices which have strengthened economic resilience and self-reliance, including the strengthening of our capacity for local manufacturing; and honour various persons who have emerged as ‘COVID-19 Heroes’due to their exemplary and selfless service to Kenya during the pendency of this Pandemic,” Kinyua said.
The President is expected to hold the 12th national address on Tuesday next week, September 29.
