Uhuru is an illegitimate President, Raila tells BBC ahead of Uhuru’s inauguration

Hours before the swearing-in of President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta, opposition boss Raila Odinga insisted he does not recognize him as the President.

Raila in an interview with BBC on Tuesday morning maintained Uhuru is illegitimately in office.

He said nothing changes for him as opposition which he commands, will continue with its civil disobedience and resisting Jubilee’s rule.

“We will ensure electoral justice. The struggle will continue through civil disobedience, demonstrations and boycotts until there is electoral justice,” said the former Prime Minister.

Raila said key issues among NASA’s quest for liberation is electoral justice which must be instituted at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“We need to reform the IEBC and ensure an independent judiciary and the neutrality of security forces…[they] must be addressed or there will be no country.”

His utterance comes just days after Leader of Majority in Parliament Aden Duale acting for President Uhuru Kenyatta met his Brother Oburu Odinga with the aim of charting a political truce.

Duale presented a six-point proposal which to Oburu that will set the pace for further and in-depth negotiations with the opposition.

Among the proposals presented by Duale was that NASA tones down on anti-Jubilee rhetoric and publicly recognizes Uhuru as the President.
