Uhuru names full Cabinet, appoints Amina Mohammed as Education CS

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday named nominees to his Cabinet in a State of the Nation address live from State House.

The President created a new administration position in each ministry which will be headed by a Chief Administrative Secretary.

Uhuru nominated the following to Cabinet Secretary positions:

Prof Maragaret Kobia- Public Service, Gender and Youth Affairs

Peter Munya-EAC and Northern corridor development projects

Farida Karoney- Lands

Monicah Juma-Foreign Affairs

Cecily Kariuki –Health

Simon Chelugui-Water

Rashid Achesa- Sports and Culture

Keriako Tobiko- Environment and Forestry

John Munyes-Petroleum and Mining

Ukur Yattani- labour and Social Protection

Defence Cabinet Secretary Rachel Omamo was retained in the ministry.

Current industrialization CS Aden Mohammed retained his position while Ambassador Amina Mohammed was nominated as the CS for Education replacing Dr Fred Matiang’i who is now the Interior Cabinet Secretary.

Eugene Wamalwa is now the Devolution CS. He has been serving as Water and Irrigation CS. Mwangi Kiunjuri is now the Agriculture CS.

Others are Joe Mucheru (ICT), Najib Balala (Tourism), Henry Rotich (Treasury), James Macharia (Transport) and Charles Keter (Energy).

Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju has been nominated to the Cabinet on a need-be case.

Former Nairobi County Women Representative Rachel Shebesh was nominated as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for the Public Service, Youth Affairs and Gender ministry while former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba was named the CAS for Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Uhuru said the new position will allow the CAS to help the CS in running of the ministry.
