(Video) Businessman to sue Waititu for invading land and excavating road

By Pharis Kinyua: Jamhuri News

A few weeks after Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu took victory in Jubilee party nominations for Kiambu governorship, he is facing a legal battle.

This follows a decision he made together with Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a and David Ngare (Gakuyo) last week to create a feeder road at Chania bridge in Thika to ease traffic jam.

It has now turned out that the parcel of land where the road was created belongs to businessmen Kariuki Njiiri and Duncan Macharia respectively.

Njiiri and Macharia have threatened to sue the duo for excavating a road in the 1.5 acre piece of land without their consent.

Njiiri notes that he holds all required and legal documents to prove that the piece of land belongs to him.

He narrates that he only got to know of the invasion after his farmhand contacted him on May 9 when Waititu and other people arrived at the scene with two excavators and begun to clear the land.

After the call, he quickly rushed to the scene where he found excavation works ongoing and attempts to sop them was met with verbal resistance by Ng’ang’a.

“I rushed to the land to enquire what was happening. I approached Baba Yao and Ng’ang’a and introduced myself and asked why they had invaded my land. The Thika MP became very hostile and raised her voice, saying the road will be constructed whether I like it or not,” says Njiiri as quoted by the Star.

However, he says, Waititu acted “diplomatically” and called him aside and promised to have him compensated by government. He also told him that once he takes over governorship, he will push for expedition of his compensation.

“He told me he will push for my compensation from the national government but I insisted that it was an illegality to invade my land and construct a public road without notifying me.”

“Waititu also told me I shouldn’t worry because when he becomes the Kiambu governor he will see how to solve the matter,” Njiiri said.

The news of Waititu creating a feeder road at the bridge was hailed by social media users.

Thika has grappled with traffic congestion for a while.
