Fresh evidence into the murder of 28-year-old Kevin Omwenga who was shot in his Kilimani apartment on August 21 has emerged.

Omwenga was allegedly shot by Robert Bodo Ouko with a Ceska pistol owned by flamboyant businessman Chris Obure who he worked for as a bodyguard.

New CCTV footage aired by Citizen TV on Friday night shows Ouko, a suspect in the case and in police custody in the office at Senteu Plaza along Galana Road where he picked the gun from the safe and left.

He would be captured later by CCTV cameras in the office past 11 pm the same day returning the alleged murder weapon to the safe and added more bullets in the magazine.

At this time, Omwenga had already been shot and rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

At the Galana suites, Ouko is seen carrying Omwenga’s body to a waiting blue car where he is placed at the back seat and it speeds off to hospital with the deceased’s brother, Wycliffe on board.

Ouko hurriedly crosses over and enters the Senteu Plaza office block where he returns the gun and minutes later come out and hails a bodaboda to Kilimani Police Station.

Here, he reports the incident and a short while later, he is arrested.

On Friday, Justice James Wakiaga ordered Ouko and Obure, who are the suspects be taken for mental assessment.

They will be charged with murder. The judge said they will take plea on Monday next week.

An autopsy report by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor indicated that Omwenga died as a result of excessive bleeding.

He could not, however, ascertain claims by Ouko that the deceased accidentally shot himself.

The bullet penetrated his chest and angled towards his heart.

It is alleged that the two had exchanged about a fake gold deal gone sour.

Omwenga had been scheduled to fly out to Dubai the following day to collect Ksh100 million from a gold deal he had ostensibly brokered together with a colleague who lived nearby.
