78-year-old man in Meru to sell over Sh.10m property to campaign for Uhuru’s re-election

A man from Meru County is at odds with his family members after declaring he will sell all his property and put the money towards President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election campaign.

Zablon Mukiira, 78, said he wants to help out Uhuru out since opposition has posed a huge threat on his re-election.

He said Raila Odinga is enjoying rising support in Meru.

Among the things he intends to sell are a bull and sheep which his family holds dearly.

According to Daily Nation report, Mukiira will also sell a 2 acre-piece of land  in the outskirts of Meru town to top up should the proceeds from the sale of the bull and sheep not accomplish his mission.

“I will sell my only bull at Sh40,000 and three sheep at Sh25,000 to campaign for the president because I feel some people don’t want to vote for him. I believe in his leadership because he has done a lot for us in the last five years. I will move from village to village to tell the people what the Jubilee government has done,” said Mukiira.

He said he does not care at all who wins the local elective seat but cares about Uhuru defending his.

He said Uhuru has done well during his tenure and as such, he deserves re-election.

“The president has completed the standard gauge railway, increased electricity connectivity and supported free primary education. He has also introduced free maternity which enabled my daughters-in-law to give birth for free in public hospitals. I also get a monthly stipend from the government.”

Pleas from His wife, Esther Mukiira, and their two sons, Gregory Mukiiria and Dominic Mutethia have fallen on deaf ears.

They say their pleas with the father for the last two months not to sell any of the property have been futile.

“We are afraid that our father will make true his threat because he has been asking us to look for buyers. If he succeeds to sell the livestock, he is likely to auction the plot too. He is not ready to listen to anyone including fellow elders,” Gregory said.

The son added that the piece of land which sits Adjacent to Nkabune Technical Training Institute could fetch up to sh10 million.

“A former top government official has been asking my father to sell the land but he refused. Now that he is obsessed with campaigning for the president, he might let it go.”

He will center his focus on Nyambene and Imenti areas where he says opposition is gaining ground.

Mzee Mukiira is former Mau Mau veteran fighter and he says he used to meet Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in Embu back in those days.

This is why he feels inclined to do everything to help out Uhuru retain his seat.
