The High Court on Tuesday temporarily lifted a ban on the National Super Alliance anti-IEBC demonstrations in the city centre.

The lifting of the ban was issued by High Court Judge Chacha Mwita

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i issued the ban last week.

Matinag’i while citing the Public Order Act said NASA protestors were restricted from picketing with the central business district of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

He said the protests have posed a danger to businesses and property.

However, NASA through its CEO Norman Magaya moved to court to challenge Matiang’i’s directive which the coalition had earlier termed as unconstitutional and illegal.

According to Justice Mwita, the suspension binds until the case lodged by Magaya is heard and determined.

At the same time, Justice John Mativo has issued orders blocking the arrest of Magaya over the demos.

Last week, the Acting Interior CS said Magaya would be arrested since he is the one who wrote to Nairobi Police Commander alerting him about planned NASA protest which turned chaotic on Wednesday.
