Wilson Sossion, will continue serving as the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General following a temporary court order barring his de-registration by TSC and registrar of trade unions.

Sossion through his lawyer James Orengo moved to the Employment and Labour Relations court on Wednesday where the matter was certified as urgent.

Judge Maureen Onyango issued the temporary barring orders.

She directed the registrar of trade unions, TSC and Knut deputy SG Hesbon Otieno to file their responses before May 9 and appear for hearing on May 10.

“A temporary prohibition order is hereby issued barring the respondents from registering, appointing, recognizing, putting or placing any person as Knut secretary general in place of Sossion pending the hearing of the application,” said the judge according to the Star.

Judge Onyango also issued a court injunction restraining Otieno or any other person from assuming the roles of Sossion as KNUT Secretary-General in acting capacity or otherwise.

The teachers’ employer TSC and registrar of trade unions have also been barred from ratifying a decision by KNUT’s National Executive Council which suspended Sossion on April 30.

According to Capital FM News, 22 voted in support the Sossion’s suspension while only two voted against the decision.

The ODM nominated MP was accused of misconduct. An in-depth probe was to be conducted during his suspension.

In Sossions’s absence, KNUT’s most authoritative organ picked KNUT Deputy Secretary General Hesbon Otieno to be the acting Secretary-General.

Otieno had been tasked with ensuring the smooth running of the union as an in-depth probe on Sossion’s conduct was conducted.
