Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that he is the father to the girl who allegedly torched Moi Girls’ dormitory in Nairobi.

The CS through his facebook account said the reports are ill-intentioned and hurting.

“I have been aware of this totally false, ill-intentioned and hurtful rumour that the girl who is alleged to have burnt the Moi Girls domitory is my daughter. She is not. I have never had a daughter in that school,” he says in the post.

He adds that such rumours are deeply paining to families who lost their loved ones in the fire that consumed 10 young lives.

“It is cruel to the families that lost loved ones to create these kinds of unfounded rumours when their wounds are still this raw. It is hurtful too for the family whose daughter is now being called my daughter.”

He hit out at unnamed forces who he accused of peddling the rumor.

Kiunjuri termed it a “cowardly” act and said whoever is behind it should apologize to the families who lost their children in the fire incident.

“The cowardly anonymous originator of this rumour should apologize to the affected families and desist  from publishing this or any other unfounded malicious stories,” remarks the CS.

Last month, one of the dormitories at the school was razed down killing 9 girls. And just last week, another victim of the arson took her final bow.

Police arrested one student from the school over the arson and the case is ongoing.
