Daring gunmen shoot, wound Danish national in Karen

A Danish national was on Saturday shot and wounded in Nairobi’s Karen suburb by unknown gunmen.

The man who was shot on his thigh near Karen Blixen as his wife and son helplessly watched the horrifying ordeal. He is hospitalized at Nairobi Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Police reports indicate the family was walking from the hotel when two gunmen on a motorbike pounced on them and demanded for cash. They later grabbed a bag in possession of the Danish family containing cameras, laptops, passports and unknown amount of money.

Karen OCPD Suiyanka Cunningham according to the Standard said the man was shot during this confrontation with the thugs who later sped off.

This is the third incident where foreigners have been attacked in the leafy suburb.

Last year in October, an Australian teacher working in one of the international schools in the area was shot dead.

Ms. Gabrielle Maina the head teacher of Hillcrest Preparatory School in Karen was shot dead while on her way home. The gang approached her and blocked her form getting to the house before shooting her dead.

They stole a mobile phone and made away on a motorbike before spreading apart at Kawangware area according to police reports.

According to post mortem results, she died as a result of a bullet penetrating her neck, an indication she could have been kneeling before being shot at close range.

Gabrielle moved to Kenya in 2015 and had been heading the school until her ill-fated death.

Her ex-husband was later arrested in connection with her death.
