The European Union Election Observer Mission (EOEOM) has recommend IEBC Chiefs responsible for bungled August 8 polls be prosecuted.

In an interim statement on Thursday, the EU mission said prosecution of responsible chiefs and radical changes at the poll agency will promote transparency in October 17 repeat polls.

EU Chief Observer Marietje Shaacke said there are 95 pre-election criminal cases so far.

“There have to date not been any investigations against senior public officers who have reportedly breached the law. Some stakeholders have questioned the ability of the ODPP to challenge more senior leaders,” she said in the statement as Daily Nation quotes.

“Fast, comprehensive and effective investigations are needed so that there is individual accountability for actions taken.”

EU’s call comes in handy with NASA’s similar call.

The opposition says it will furnish the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko with evidence of the top managers’ culpability in the election.

IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba, Deputy CEO Betty Nyabuto, Director of Elections Immaculate Kassait, ICT head James Muhati and head of legal Services Praxedes Tororey are some of the IEBC staff on the firing line.

NASA says they failed in their job and should be prosecuted.

The EU called on IENC to test its procedure and technology ahead of repeat polls to ensure result transmission is flawless.

“The re-run offers a key opportunity for Kenya to create a more robust democracy and rule of law.”

“But this process is not automatic, [it] requires hard work, and the rebuilding of trust. The recommended reforms should help the IEBC and others to rebuild the confidence of Kenyans in their elections,” Schaake noted.
