Ignorance by Kenyans is to blame for the rising number of coronavirus cases which are now at 25.

In a fiery presser by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Tuesday, he said nine more cases have been confirmed.

“82 samples were tested and we received nine people who have tested positive,” stated the Health CS.

Of the new cases, two are foreigners and the other seven are Kenyans spread across Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale counties.

Mr Kagwe reckoned that the seven Kenyans three contracted it from other infected persons while four others came in from abroad.

The nine patients are now in isolation. “They have been taken into isolation and are being monitored by our personnel.”

He added that Kenya can carry out tests saying the National Influenza Centre and Kemri labs can test about 300 samples every day.

At the points of entry, health personnel are armed with screening equipment. Further, the government directed that all those coming from abroad be quarantined.

This comes in the wake of reports of people who tested positive mingling freely with other Kenyans.

It has been established that a priest who attended a funeral ceremony last week in Siaya flew in from Rome, Italy tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

Siaya County Commissioner Micheal Ole Tialal said that the priest interacted with his family in Nyasanda before heading out to Seg to see another priest.
