US-based Carter Centre has renewed its call towards President Uhuru Kenyatta to embark on national dialogue with his archenemy Raila Odinga.

The centre in a statement on Monday said following Supreme Court’s ruling upholding Uhuru’s victory in October repeat elections, the stage has been set for national dialogue.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has a fresh mandate to lead all Kenyans, should re-initiate the national dialogue that culminated in the 2010 Constitution,” read part of the statement according to the Star from the observer group.

Carter centre led by former US Secretary of State John Kerry was among international observer groups monitoring the bungled August 8 polls as well as the repeat presidential elections.

The statement came after Raila said that he does not recognize Uhuru’s victory even after the Supreme Court ruling.

“We in NASA had repeatedly declared before this Supreme Court ruling today that we consider this government to be illegitimate and we do not recognize it.

“This position has not been changed by the court ruling, which does not come as a surprise,” he said in a statement on Monday through his adviser Salim Lone.

The dialogue as mapped out by the observer group should extensively deliberate on healing ethnicity and tribalism that have dogged the country.

The Carter Centre has also told Kenya to appreciate the fact that elections are part of democratic growth and not a stage for killing one another.

“They (elections) are not for weakening democratic institutions and life-and-death clashes.”
