The Kalenjin community should not be worried about Kikuyu’s support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 State House bid.

Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria in his new year’s message which he celebrated in Eldoret dismissed the notion that the Gikuyu nation never supports anyone unless it is one of their own.

He said the Gikuyu, Embu, and Meru people under GEMA will not disappoint their “son” because they whave supported President Uhuru Kenyatta for two terms.

“On behalf of the people of Mt Kenya, I want to thank you for the support you gave President Uhuru in two elections last year. We guarantee the DP Ruto our support in 2022. Our support for him is like a cheque that we have already written and signed ready for banking,” he said in Eldoret as quoted by the Star.

Kalenjins have been skeptical about support for one of their own from the Kikuyu nation.

The debate was first started by former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who caused a storm in both Rift Valley and Mt Kenya when he said that “Ruto will not get automatic support”; he has to “cultivate it.”

Then came fiery ex-nominated Senator Paul Njoroge Ben who said Kikuyu’s are duping Kalenjins by declaring to support Ruto.

This, yet again, stirred politica waters and aroused skeptical feelings and Kalienjin through various leaders expressed their discomfort with such talks.

However, Kuria, a kikuyu by tribe, said he is rallying the tribe to give unwavering support for Ruto’s 2022 State House bid.

“That political cheque for DP Ruto is already written and I am the one keeping it safe for him.”
