The Law Society of Kenya has disqualified a vocal city lawyer from running for the LSK Presidency in forthcoming elections.

LSK’s Chief Executive Mercy Wambua on Friday said lawyer Nelson Havi lacks the required experience to run for the highly competitive seat among legal professionals.

In a letter she addressed to the lawyer, cites the Star, Wambua noted: “Upon considering the application for the position of president, we have concluded that Havi Nelson Andayi is unqualified to vie for the said position as he is yet to attain 15 years in practice from the date of his admission as provided for under Section 18 of the advocates Act.”

“Given the circumstances mentioned above, the aforementioned shall not be eligible to contest in the forthcoming elections and any other similar exercise until, he meets all the required qualifications.”

The elections are slated for February next year. Isaac Okero is the current LSK President.

Havi has often been perceived to be a NASA-siding lawyer.

He was among Raila Odinga’s legal team that drafted the August 8 poll petition that saw the election nullified and fresh elections ordered by the court.
