Each classroom will have between 15 and 20 pupils upon school reopening in September, Education CS George Magoha said Wednesday.

Magoha who had toured a fabric centre producing tonnes of face masks daily in Kitui said that all teachers are expected to report back their stations of duty two weeks before the reopening of schools.

He added that every school will also have thermo guns to take the pupils’ temperature and each pupil will get two face masks every term.

“Every school will also have thermo guns for temperature checks,” Magoha maintained.

By September, the government will have 24 million masks ready.

Every school now must have clean, running water, soap or hand sanitizer to ensure that the pupils/students wash their hands frequently.

Other structures and objects within the school which could potentially spread coronavirus such as doorknobs, switches among others will be disinfected regularly.

Magoha’s decision comes a few days after a task force which was looking into issues of school re-opening submitted the report.

During Madarak Day on June 1, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the Education Ministry to come up with a framework which will lead towards the reopening of schools in the country.

Kenyans though, remain opposed to the re-opening of schools in September going by an Infotrak poll which was released on Sunday.

Seventy percent of those polled said that they are apprehensive of schools resuming in September citing the increasing number of coronavirus cases.
