Meet Kenya’s youngest governor (aspirant) Stephen Sang

By Pharis Kinyua: Jamhuri News

Nandi County Senator, Stephen Sang, has hit the headlines after clinching a Jubilee ticket to vie for the governorship in the August 8 polls.

His headlining has left Kenyans amazed after the 32-year-old first time Senator pulled out his claws to trounce incumbent Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat in Tuesday’s Jubilee Party nominations.

Sang, a lawyer by profession, extended his political wit to floor powerful figures like former Cabinet Secretaries Henry Kosgey and Felix Koskei respectively.

He managed to convince voters in Nandi Hills, Emgwen, Tindiret, Aldai, Mosop and Chesumei constituencies in Nandi that despite his young age, he can handle county matters better than his challengers who are well advanced in age.

The now governor-to-be, only declared his bid about four months ago and he has emerged to be the people’s choice. He says his desire to hold governorship was inspired by the lack of development in Nandi.

He has severally accused incumbent Lagat of poor handling of the county.

Analysts point out that his wit in politics is well calculated. His active role in the Senate as well as championing for several bills which have impacted the people positively played out in his favor.

Sang is among scores of other Senators who have thrown their hats into the ring and contesting for governorship in their respective counties.
