Fiery NASA MP Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) is now the Chairman for Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC).

Opiyo put up a brave fight against two other contenders for the chairmanship of PAC to emerge the winner.

He garnered 15 votes while Nambale MP Bunyasi Sakwa got 3 and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo got no votes at all.

He will be deputized by Wiper’s MP Jessica Mbalu (Kibwezi East).

He takes over from ex-Rarieda legislator Nicholas Gumbo who was trounced in Siaya governorship race.

PAC is one of Parliament’s powerful committees.

It is tasked with scrutinizing accounts of the House and other institutions as well.

The members in the committee will serve for three calendar years.

On a separate story, the High Court on Monday awarded Sh4 million to as damages to a girl who was stripped during a police inspection in 2015.

The girl who was then in high school was subjected to a strip search by police officers after she was found in possession of bhang.

Nude pictures of the girl were later circulated on social media.

This caused uproar among Kenyans for violating the teenager’s rights.

An NGO, Cradle, sued the state for violating the girl’s rights and was demanding for Sh7 million as damages.

She was charged for being possession of the drug and pleaded guilty. She was handed a suspended sentence of 18-month probation.
