The Attorney-General Prof Githu Muigai has slammed lawyers who double up as politicians for misleading the country about treason.

In an apparent jibe at NASA’s legal eggheads, he said they are “legal dinosaurs” who are misleading the country.

The AG spoke in response to statements by NASA senior counsel James Orengo who dismissed Muigai’s treason charge against Raila Odinga.

Raila was clamouring to be sworn in as Kenya’s fifth President on December 12.

But the AG came out and warned that if he took the Presidential oath, he would be charged with treason, which is punishable by death.

Orengo in a rejoinder to Muigai’s statement said as quoted by the Star: “Treason is not an easy offence to prove … AG is using threats and living at a different time. Kenya is not a colony anymore.”

In another swipe, he told the AG to go back to law school.

But Muigai on Monday during the launch of ‘National Action Plan on Legal Aid said’ such lawyers should learn to be truthful to the law.

“Lawyer politicians mislead the country. Young people must call out these ‘legal dinosaurs’ and help the public appreciate what is really the law,” he said.

“As a group of public intellectuals, they comment on every issue. And the louder they are, the more ignorant they become. We owe the public a duty of care.

He said they should be stopped from feeding the public with false information.

“We must stop these reckless individuals from misinforming the public. We have the law which is clear. These people are mischievous and misinformed. I would have thought that treason was basic knowledge.. Senator Politicians cannot shut up on issues they have no idea about.”
