In politics, they say, there are no permanent friends or enemies.

With the current political situation in the country, this saying has gained credence especially after a once Jubilee critic pledged allegiance to the party yesterday.

Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar jumped ship and is now a voice of reason for the ruling coalition in the Coast region.

Omar who was the Secretary General for Wiper Party resigned following his loss at the Mombasa Governorship on August 8.

On Sunday, the politician was officially welcomed to Jubilee Party by President Uhuru Kenyatta during a tour to Coast region.

He revealed Deputy President William Ruto is to be credited for his change of mind.

Omar said that after his loss, NASA leaders including his immediate former Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka did not bother to call him and console him over his loss.

But Ruto did, three days after the August 8 polls (August 11].

“After my loss in August to Joho, no NASA principal called me to check on me or even to encourage me,” said Omar as according to Nairobi News.

He added: “But on August 11, the DP called me. He encouraged me to take the positives from the loss. He made me think about who my true friends are.”

The former Senator in a statement that seemed to question NASA’s leadership noted “Raila will always come here and look away as high taxes are imposed on Mombasa people. When businessmen struggle to get permits, he never talks about it.”

Omar has severally criticized Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s leadership in Mombasa County.
