The opposition coalition, NASA, is not backing down on its quest to swear-in Raila Odinga; they have set January 30 as the date for inauguration.

On Thursday, NASA team announced they will make public the Assumption of Office Committee members who are planning the ceremony.

“An Assumption of Office Committee, which is already in place and working will be unveiled in the coming days, and that Committee will be keeping you informed,” said ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen.

Ong’wen is also a member of the organizing committee planning the oath.

The team which also comprises economist and NASA strategist Dr David Ndii is fine-tuning the inauguration plan.

This, they say, is the first step towards restoring electoral justice in the country.

Ong’wen said the swearing-in ceremony will be the “biggest event that Kenya has seen since independence.”

Ndii defended their latest push to swear-in Raila saying change is beckoning.

“The country we have now is not working, we must reconstitute Kenya afresh,” said the economist as told by the Star.

The NASA strategist rubbished opinions from both Jubilee politicians and some members of the public who view Raila’s inauguration as inconsequential.

He said real power is vested in the people who are already behind Raila and not the instruments of power that President Uhuru Kenyatta is in possession of.

“What power do you have if people turned their back on you at Kasarani stadium? he asked.

The oath plan comes against a warning from the Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai who on December termed NASA’s act as “high treason” punishable by death.

Muigai cited that by NASA going on with the oath plan, they would be in contravention of Article 3(2) of the Constitution which calls on every Kenyan to respect and uphold the Constitution.

Raila was scheduled to be sworn in as President on December 12 last year but this was postponed.

ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi who communicated the postponement said it would dent Raila’s image before the international community.

However, NASA now insists that the oath plan will continue as earlier planned in December last year since the President is not ready to have political dialogue with the opposition.

Yesterday, US ambassador Robert Godec called for dialogue with intensified push by NASA to have Raila sworn in.
