President Uhuru Kenyatta in an offensive to NASA supporters said that they should not feel obliged to vote in the repeat poll on October 26.

The President while speaking in Kitui on Monday said NASA supporters have an unreserved Constitutional right not to vote during the polls.

But, he warned, they should not block those who are willing to vote on that day.

“It’s not a must for them to vote. We have so many Kenyans who do not have IDs and that has not stopped an election from happening,” said Uhuru according to the Star adding “let them not block those willing to do so.”

He reiterated Jubilee is ready for repeat polls.

Taking a jibe at the opposition leader Raila Odinga, Uhuru told pro-NASA supporters that they were being used to sabotage the economy.

The President told them to stop working and see if Raila will provide food for them since they are following orders from him to demonstrate.

“You are free to roam in the town for as long as you wish. But at the end of the day, you will be accountable to your families whether Baba will put food on the table.”

NASA has been holding street protest in the past month. From Monday [yesterday] the coalition embarked on daily street protest.

But on Tuesday [today] NASA called off the demos to attend to the injured but is expected to resume on Wednesday.

The demonstration have since affected many businesses in the capital, Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.

Raila has maintained there will be no elections on October 26 since he has withdrawn from the race.

However, Uhuru said that though he got just a sizeable number of votes from Kitui, he appreciates and hopes that in the repeat polls, the numbers will go up.

“We thank you for the little votes you gave us but we appeal in the repeat election consider us.”

Deputy President William Ruto hit out at Raila Odinga telling him to get ready and face him in 2022.

Ruto said that if Raila is not ready for the repeat polls, he should step back and let Uhuru be sworn-in.

But in 2022, come back to the game and face him [Ruto] off.

“…let’s meet on the ballot 2022.”
