Hell’s Gate MCA in Nakuru succumbs to COVID-19

Hell’s Gate MCA John Njuguna has succumbed to COVID-19.

The Nakuru MCA was taken ill on Friday last week and taken to Nakuru Nursing Home.

Njuguna fondly referred to as ‘Wa-Sussy’ fought for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until Monday when Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Joel Maina Kairu broke the news.

The Hell’s Gate MCA had developed breathing complications which prompted his family to rush him to hospital.

His body has been preserved at Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru.

The Nakuru County Assembly was put on lockdown last week after several positive cases were confirmed.

Operations at the assembly have since been scaled down as most of the staff are away.

Since October, Nakuru has come out as one of the hardest-hit counties by COVID-19.

On Monday, another 756 new COVID-19 cases were recorded from a sample size of 4,316. This brings the total caseload to 63,244.

Out of the 756 new cases, 731 were Kenyans while 25 were foreigners. In terms of gender, 478 were male and 278 were female.

The youngest was a one-month-old infant while the oldest was 81 years old. 

Another 728 patients recovered from the disease; 645 from home-based care programme, while 82 were discharged from various hospitals. The total recoveries now stand at 42,659.

Sadly, 19 patients succumbed to the virus bringing the fatality to 1,130. 

Nairobi led with 371 cases followed by Mombasa, 82, Kiambu 52, Busia 39, Uasin Gishu, 34, Kajiado 27, Kakamega, 18, and Nyeri, 17.

Machakos had 17, Nakuru, 14, Kisumu 18, Kilifi, 10, Meru, 8, Kisii, 7, Nandi, 5, Nyamira, 5, Laikipia 4, Homa Bay, 4, Lamu 4 and Kericho 4 among others.
