A newly elected Jubilee MP from Ukambani is under siege after allegedly calling for the rape of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

In an undated video doing rounds on social media, Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai is heard saying that Ngilu’s camp ordered any woman seen donned a Jubilee t-short to be raped.

“Nilisikia hata wakisema kijana akionekana na t-shirt ya Jubilee itolewe, mama akionekana na t-short ya Jubilee arapiwe. Kwani Ngilu yeye mweneyewe hawezi rapiwa? said the MP in the video.

In English, it loosely translates to: “I heard they said any youth seen wearing a Jubilee t-shirt; it should be removed and they also said any woman seen wearing a Jubilee t-shirt should be raped? Who is Ngilu that she cannot be raped too?”

He goes on to say that Ngilu should apologize else she suffers the same fate.

This statement has prompted the federation of women lawyers (Fida) to demand an apology from the MP.

Fida national Chairperson Josephine Mongare said they will sue the MP if he does not apologize.

“This is a clear demonstration of elections gender based violence emitted against women. It confirms some of the forms of intimidation that women are taken through when they come out to vie for political positions and strive to maintain public positions,” she said as Daily Nation quotes.

“We therefore demand an immediate apology from Hon Mbai, failure to which we shall take legal action against him. Women should not be cowed from vying, taking up and or maintaining political positions.”
