The IEBC has added five more candidate names to the presidential election rerun scheduled to take place on October 26th.

Dr. Ekuru Aukot, Mr. Abduba Dida, Mr. Joseph Nyagah, Mr. Michael Wainaina and Mr. Japheth Kavinga are currently the candidates expected to appear on the ballot alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA principal Raila Odinga.

This comes hours after Mr. Ekuru Aukot petitioned the IEBC to exclude all other candidates and only add his name and that of the president on the ballot.

On Wednesday, Justice Mativo ordered IEBC to include Dr. Aukot’s name on the ballot and invite any other candidate who was on the August 8 ballot to participate in Oct 26 election rerun.

Aukot is running on Thirdway Alliance ticket, while Mr. Dida will be running on Alliance for Real Change platform.

The IEBC chairman Mr. Wafula Chebukati said the notice should be read together with the one issued on September 29 on the ticket of President Kenyatta and Mr. Odinga.

Cyrus Jirongo was left out of the race by IEBC as he was recently declared bankrupt. Constitutionally, that disqualifies him as a candidate for the highest office.

“The candidate Shakhalaga Kwa Jirongo is not eligible to participate in the fresh presidential election as he does not qualify under articles 137 and 99 (2) (f) of the Constitution,” Mr. Chebukati said.
