The United States Government has expressed its worrying concerns about Kenya political situation.

In a statement issued on Friday by the United States Department according to Reuters, the US raised its apprehension over role played by both Jubilee and NASA in undermining the IEBC.

This was moments after hyped anti-IEBC protests by the opposition rocked various towns across the country on Friday.

The statement added that the US does not support any political party but, “unfortunately, in recent weeks actors on all sides have undermined the electoral commission and stoked tensions.”

A week ago, US ambassador Robert Godec had expressed similar concerns over sustained attacks on the IEBC.

He said politicians allied to both Jubilee and NASA were greatly trying to influence the working of the poll agency.

Categorically, Godec noted that a raft of radical amendments to electoral law championed by Jubilee were ill-timed.

He said in any democracy across the world, such amendments should be done in proper time and not a few days before the country heads to general elections.

“The timing of the laws is a serious problem that requires careful reflection. Avoid changes to electoral rules prior to the election,” advised the envoy.

He added: “All should give IEBC the space it needs. So, do not paralyse the IEBC for it is the only institution that has to run the elections.”
